I've had problems before with the fade in/out transition causing constant crashing of my new desktop and I worked around it by using the PiP version of fade in/out. Now I'm trying to use a different transition and it causes my computer to crash everytime I try to put one near where a subtitle is. I had a similar crashing problem using Corel's version of video editing software.
This is a not a problem with my computer being unable to handle the program because it's less than a year old and it's a high powered gamer's desktop. What the heck is going on? I'm not a computer pro so I don't know how much digging I'll be able to do to figure it out.

Hello,
It is most likely an issue with your Windows install and/or graphics card, because rare is it that PowerDirector crashes for simply adding a transition.
First, ensure your GPU driver is updated to the latest version. Second, try deselecting 'Enable harding decoding' in Hardware Acceleration preferences. Third, attach you DXDiag.txt file as requested so the experts on this forum can gain better insight into what is going on with your setup.
Cheers

I did a Windows update, so hopefully that updated the driver you asked about. I deselected the decoding option. I've attached the diag.

Hello,
It looks like your driver is almost a year old. You can download the latest version here:

Thanks. Does it not get updated with the rest of the Windows updates? Again, not a computer pro here. Reply

Generally, video drivers aren't updated like the core parts of Windows are so you should manually check for new nVidia drivers every few months.
You may want to download and install the latest nVidia Studio Driver (451.77) and choose to install just the NVIDIA Graphics Driver. On the Installation Options page, chose Custom (Advanced) then select only the Graphics Driver. You may need/want to reboot to finish the installation.
The other thing that concerns me is the large number of crashes caused by the FreemakeUtilsService.exe program, as shown at the end of the test results. You may want to try uninstalling Freemake and rebooting to see if PD no longer crashes.
I know you have a fairly new system, and an easy way to check for any trouble with how Windows is installed is to run the two commands as described in this post. They may find no problems or find problems and automatically correct them.

Thanks for the help. Not sure which alteration worked, but the crash seems to have stopped, relating to adding transitions near the subtitles. ReplyReply to this topic
